about

'The Ground' is a reflective song about moving on from a past relationship, whilst wishing that person all the best. The song came from a drum groove, which was later adapted for more of modern jazz feel. Next came the main guitar chords, with the melody/lyrics added shortly after. The spoken word/rap sections bring an exciting and energetic feel to the song, whilst giving more context. The middle section opens out to intertwining violins and lush guitars, sailing the song to a reminiscent ending. FFO Gogo Penguin, Fink, The Cinematic Orchestra, Alfa Mist.

lyrics

Hey, where did you go?
And how are you now that the weight has gone?
Still shedding the skin you grew into
And suffered enough
Love, what is it for?
And who's in between?
It's the days you lost looking at a screen
Do me a favour and send me a postcard, hun

Kick back, now think of a dream
When the sun comes out can you picture a scene
I don't got a lot whole lotta time to kill
Just a man with a minute and a line to fill
So be strong, head down, lay back, breathe in, move on

Oh, well it's not really figuring out
So hold on and take your head out the ground

Hey, I hope you are well
I'm doing just fine, now that the weight has gone
Still sinking in softly, I thought we had something
I'm done
Life, what is it for?
And what could it be?
It's the age you're at, it's what you believe
Do me a favour, take care of yourself now, love.

Time out. We missed another chance we had
Leave it all behind with the plans we had
We don't got a whole lotta love to burn
Just enough to admit it, got a lot to learn
So be strong, head down, lean back, breathe in, stay gold

Oh, well it's not really figuring out
So hold on and take your head out the ground
